Description:
This movement workshop explores the interplay between technical acrobatic forms and creative impulse.
We begin with the foundations of body mapping, articulation, and mobility work as tools to assess, deepen our body awareness and movement capacity.
We progress through technical sequences that cultivate coordination, strength, and nuance. This workshop emphasizes repetition to help sharpen awareness, build discipline, and allow space for innovation. The practice would be supported by mindful recovery and functional mobility practices, teaching students that sustainability and care are inseparable from artistry. Through these modalities, you can build awareness and agency that enables you to train intensely while nurturing longevity. Using these specific vocabulary moves such the cartwheel, macaco, and rolls to express the energy or movement behind those forms (spirals, curves, circles) we can begin to find connections between mechanics, intention, and perception that create a sense of harmony, rhythm, and flow.
Through this attentive practice of the forms and the principles that underly them, we can begin to bend the rules and play with the boundaries of these forms, finding new possibilities. Moving beyond specific forms into the principles and potentials behind these movements allows participants to explore their capacities of physicality in a way that is spontaneous and in harmony with your body, in that place, in that moment. We may find avenues of discovery in how our movement practice can act as a form of meditation. By aligning purpose with physical awareness, students learn not only how to move but why they move.
You can think of these exercises as open-ended questions that can have multiple answers and avenues to explore.
Through this, we learn to move beyond the acrobatic move and into a space that nourishes spontaneity and harmony with your body, in that place, in that moment.
This workshop is not an audition. Rather, an opportunity to reveal your creative side. This is a chance to dip into the performance side of movement without the pressures of a critical audience and with the support of others. We are all here to witness our growth together. Let’s see what we can create
